The Main Press Centre (MPC) for the Beijing Olympic Games is the central work place for expected 5,600 accredited written and photographic press covering the 2008 Olympic Games, and will also be the MPC for the following Paralympic Games. It will provide excellent working conditions and act as a good communication place where the best journalists from worldwide assemble. Meanwhile, the MPC will also create the Olympic atmosphere and showcase the Chinese culture.
The MPC is located adjacent to the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) within the Olympic Green, the heart of the Olympic action. The MPC provides accredited press with easy 'walking distance' access to the National Stadium, the National Indoor Stadium, the National Aquatics Centre and seven other competition venues. The Media Accreditation Centre and the Media Transport Hub are also conveniently located adjacent to the MPC within easy walking distance.
The commercial complex of National Convention Centre housing the MPC has been under construction since April 2005 and its total floor area contains about 260,000 sqm. Three levels of the building will function as the MPC during Games time covering approximately 60,000 sqm - the largest ever MPC for an Olympic Games.
As the headquarters of the written and photographic press during the Games, the MPC will open on July 8, 2008, one month before the Opening Ceremony. The MPC will be fully operational on a 24-hour basis two weeks before the Games. |
